OCTOBER 4, 2023 – HDR Collaboration - Second Major Field Trial Of The Plasma Disinfection System (PDS) Being Planned at Large Data Center Facility

Reverse Ionizer, LLC announces it is collaborating with HDR, Inc. www.hdrinc.com, the world’s largest architectural and engineering design firm for data centers to plan a second field pilot at a major data center to prove the primary benefits of the PDS:

  • higher heat transfer

  • lower energy and water usage

  • safety (reduced risk of Legionellosis infections from cooling tower drift)

  • legal and risk (regulatory violations, lawsuits for infections, reputational)

This is based upon the highly successful field test results of our PDS, which proved it not only controls bacteria, including pathogenic bacteria such as Legionella, but it also improves heat transfer efficiency in water-cooled chillers and adiabatic systems.

We understand the connection between Legionella proliferation and loss of heat transfer in cooling water systems.

Biofilm is about 4 times as insulating as hardness scale. Traditional intermittent dosing of biocide treatment chemicals fails to effectively control biofilm. Very few operators’ facility staff measure biofilm or concentrations of Legionella – it’s an invisible risk of poor chiller performance and the presence of Legionella. And very few facilities have the instrumentation and the appropriate operating protocols to measure the heat transfer efficiency of the waterside of the chillers.

To fully control the complex life cycle of Legionella, the PDS uses two conventional technologies: copper-silver ionization and in situ oxidizing biocide, that are joined with the breakthrough use of non-thermal plasma (NTP - the 4th state of matter) to kill bacteria in cooling water systems.

There are no commercialized devices for this first-of-a-kind application.
